“PHOTOGRAPHIC TAPESTRIES OF DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES”
April 14-29, 2010
Reception: Sunday, April 18, 2010, 3-5PM
Conversation with the artist at 4PM
In his photographic tapestries series, Fukuhara draws complex relationships between nature and culture appropriating, through digital photography processes, forms found in architectural photographs and by replication, transforming them into expressive graphic systems.
Fukuhara’s project examines the urban condition as a site of intense flux, generation and de-generation and engages upon its relationship to information culture as well as to historical developments in architectural photography. Through developing patterns linked to his chosen forms, Fukuhara’s approach is driven by cycles of experimentation and discovery.
Photography’s role in history, its functions and technical processes have greatly informed the artist’s vision, having been a photographer in the Vietnam War, to supporting himself with commercial photography projects throughout the eighties and nineties. This will be Fukuhara’s first solo exhibition at LA Artcore.
