Yumi Janairo Roth Artist Lecture
January 9, 2009 at 6:30pm: held in the Pratt Studios
Pratt Fine Arts Center welcomes accomplished artist Yumi Janairo Roth as a part of Pratt’s Master and Visiting Artist Program. She has developed several bodies of work ranging from discrete objects to site-responsive installations, from solo projects to collaborations. Many of her recent projects explore ideas of moving, modifying direction, or searching for place and also include a keen interest in issues of materials and labor. Roth received a BA in anthropology from Tufts University, a BFA from the School for the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and an MFA from SUNY-New Paltz. She has taught at Lawrence University, in Appleton, WI, and currently is a professor of sculpture in the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Roth will teach a workshop entitled Commemorating the Anecdote: Making Permanent the Ephemeral from January 10 - 12, 2009.
