The Young People’s Chorus of Erie will hold its second annual Spring Concert on Saturday, June 12. The performance takes place at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of Cathedral Preparatory School, 225 W. 9th St., Erie.
Melissa Heitzenrater-Beichner, assistant director of YPC Erie, will conduct YPC’s Elementary Chorus and Intermediate Chorus. Artistic Director Dr. D. Jason Bishop will conduct performances by the Concert Chorus, Young Men’s Chorus, and Chorale.
One highlight of the evening will be the 38-voice Concert Chorus performing contemporary composer Eve Beglarian’s haunting “Machaut in the Machine Age VI: Liement Me Deport,” a modern adaption of a work by 14th century French lyric poet Guillaume de Machuat.
The Young People’s Chorus of Erie is a youth outreach program of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, and the first affiliate program of the esteemed Young People’s Chorus of New York City. The program uses a comprehensive choral music experience to give children of diverse abilities and backgrounds opportunities for personal and artistic growth, and fosters cross-cultural understanding.
