While Mom and Dad, and the grandparents too, browse the antiquities and treasures at the Delray Beach Historical Society (DBHS) Fifteenth Annual Antiques Show & Sale, whatever will the kids do? This year they have the chance to discover the past in a hands-on learning environment during the Young Families Day event at 1:30 P.M. on Saturday, February 23 at the 1926 Bungalow, 3 Northeast 1st Street, Delray Beach.
Young Families Day, a free event open to the public and supported by a grant from the Palm Beach County Cultural Council, was created to offer a unique opportunity for families to learn together about life in Delray Beach from 1915-1935.
Activities will start in the 1926 Bungalow where guests can view a timeline of local and national events from 1915-1935. A tour of the Cason Cottage House Museum will follow, where the lifestyle from this time period is thoroughly represented. A professional storyteller will whisk everyone away to a time when life was simpler. Children will discover the whimsy of traditional pastimes such as making homemade lemonade.
We wanted to debut this new educational program at our Antique Show & Sale. It's a way for the DBHS to bring families together to learn about Delray's history in a fun and authentic setting," said DBHS Executive Director Stephanie Shipley.
The Young Families Day program will be expanded in the future, offered by both the DBHS and the Historical Society of Palm Beach County.
