“Yoni Ki Baat – Giving Voice to the South Asian Vagina”
LOS ANGELES , CA - March 19, 2007 - South Asian Network in collaboration with Disha Theatre Company presents YONI KI BAAT - GIVING VOICE TO THE SOUTH ASIAN VAGINA. Laugh and cry, as you listen to the hilarious, horrifying, and celebratory stories about the desires and passions of South Asian women as they talk about gender, sexuality and the vagina! Directed by Shishir Kurup of Cornerstone Theater Company, this stage performance will be followed by a discussion amongst the audience, performers, and organizers.
Proceeds benefit South Asian Network's Awaz - Voices Against Violence Unit's efforts to address existing issues, and raise awareness about violence against women and girls. Ongoing workshops include community workshops on issues of gender based violence, individual and family health issues, and organizing around civil rights and hate crimes. South Asian Network was founded in 1990 to provide an open forum where individuals of South Asian origin could gather to discuss social, economic, and political issues affecting the community, with the goal of raising awareness, active involvement and advocacy among community members leading to an informed and empowered community.
Disha Theatre is a 501c3 whose mission is to develop a unique theatrical voice by fostering and producing work by writers, actors, directors, and other artists of the South Asian Diaspora.
