Yom Musica B'Teva
A Day of Music at Teva
****************************************************
Sunday, December 10th, 2006, Isabella Freedman Retreat Center
Jewish education and community through music

Join the Teva educators for a day of learning and music-making in a beautiful retreat setting. Perfect for Jewish educators, musicians, music lovers, or anybody who has ever heard Teva make music and wanted more. We will explore music as a means of teaching, discuss how to create community through music, gain specific skills in song-leading,
voice, and rhythm, and delve into the relationship between text and music.

Every Sunday, Teva educators have a day of personal learning and development. This is the first time that we are opening one of these sessions to the public! Join us for learning, lunch, and fun.

* LILY RAKIA CHANDLER - Heeb-Hop
Rakia, a vocalist & MC, leads a cypher tracing Jewish roots using urban language. We'll be speaking rhymes & rhythms with words, hands, and feet.

* CHANA ROTHMAN - Song-leading in the Jewish Community
Beloved by adults and children alike, Chana's songleading has Jews all over NYC dancing in the aisles. Pick up skills for songleading success, learn new Jewish songs and reinvigorate the old ones.

* ARAM RUBENSTEIN GILLIS - Songcrafting
Got an idea? Want to turn it into a song? Aram's your man. Using his foolproof, funky style we'll learn how to go through the process together.

* TAMUZ SHIRAN - Sustainable Singing
Classically trained singer and voice teacher, Tamuz, shows us how to take care of our most important instrument, our voice.

* SHOSHANA JEDWAB - Give Jews a Drum
Explore the ecstasy and necessity of rhythm with percussionist, drum circle leader and entrainment master Shoshana Jedwab.

* Plus - Text study and time to jam and show off your learning

Fee: $50, lunch included; RSVP by emailing annie@tevacenter.org; Scholarships available
