----/ Event Description /-----------------------------------------------
THE Z SPACE STUDIO presents the HERE/NOW Festival of live performances celebrating the vitality and promise of the progressive vision for America in September at the Project Artaud Theater. The HERE/NOW Festival is a liberating theatrical exploration of politics, thought, faith, and the state of the planet, that opens with Scoop Nisker's BE HERE WOW : the crazy wisdom show on Sunday, September 4, at 7 p.m., and continues (performing in repertory) with Nina Wise's NOW WHAT? a performance salon opening on Wednesday, September 7, at 8 p.m. in the Project Artaud Theater. The HERE/ NOW Festival also features a Next Series with works-in-progress appearances by Josh Kornbluth, and others.
HERE/NOW pairs two vastly different performers and asks them each to examine the world, its past, and our current state of affairs. Scoop Nisker's BE HERE WOW : the crazy wisdom show goes inward and takes a journey through history both global and personal, wandering from the beginnings of time to the radical 60's and to present day. Meanwhile, Nina Wise works from now, taking the simple question NOW WHAT? and asking it of people from all walks of life, distilling their answers into an evening of improvisational theater. Nina's guests range from Arianna Huffington (9/11); Jodie Evans and Medea Benjamin, the founders of CodePink (9/7); Luke Cole, director of The Center on Race, Poverty & the Environment (9/14); Van Jones, the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights (9/18to Dr. James Gordon and Dr. Michael Lerner (9/9); Bokara Legendre (9/21); and Dr. Daniel Siegel (9/24).
Scoop Nisker's BE HERE WOW: the crazy wisdom show runs Thursday and Saturday at 8 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m., September 4-25, & Friday 9/23 (previews Sept. 1 & 3 at 8 p.m.). Nina Wise's NOW WHAT? runs Wednesday and Friday at 8 p.m., and Sunday at 7 p.m., September 7-23, and Saturday 9/24. Performances are at the Project Artaud Theatre 450 Florida Street (@17th St.), San Francisco. Tickets are $28, $25 for students & seniors. A limited number of pay-what-you-can tickets available one hour before each performance. For information and reservations, call (415) 437-6775 or visit www.zspace.org.
