The Community House &The Yoga Association of Greater Detroit Present
THE 2ND ANNUAL FALL 'YOGADAY'
For Yoga students of all levels.
Session One: 9:30-10:45am: Starting the Day with Everything in Alignment ~ Diane Siegel-DiVita
This opening session will contain Sun Salutations and the 'Five Tibetans' (a Tibetan yoga series said to have originated more than 2,500 years ago), all of which are designed to bring you and your body into alignment - inside, outside, and with the Universe. Diane has been studying yoga for 42 years. She is a Life Member of YAGD, a Yoga Alliance Registered Teacher, and is currently a student of both Aadil Palkhivala (co-director of The College of Purna Yoga) and his brother Jehangir Palkhivala.
Session Two: 11:00am-12:15pm: Opening the Heart, Opening the Body ~ Katherine Schaefer
Backbends open the heart, uplift your mood, and can even relieve depression. This class, focusing on backbends and the upper body, will offer a step by step flow of postures based in John Friend's increasingly popular Anusara Yoga. YAGD member Katherine Schaefer - who has been teaching yoga since 1996 - was introduced to Anusara Yoga some eleven years ago and was certified as an Anusara teacher in 2007. She is also a massage therapist and Reiki Master. Be prepared to amaze yourself.
Lunch break: 12:15-1:3pm: Bring your own or visit a nearby restaurant or coffee shop
Session Three: 1:30-2:4pm: Meditation - Yoga for the Mind ~ Richard Smith
A practical guide to meditation, its value, and its application in daily life. Among topics covered will be the four basic meditation postures: sitting, walking, standing and lying down - and 'How to sit without discomfort.' YAGD member Richard Smith has been practicing Vipassana (Insight) and Samatha (Concentration) meditation for over 20 years. His primary teacher is the renowned Meditation Master Ajahn Sumedho, with whom Richard spends 1-2 months a year traveling and practicing.
Session Four: 3:00-4:15pm: Putting it all together, Making it your own ~ Lynn Medow
From the bottom of your feet to the crown of your head, yoga aligns, heals and takes residence in your very being. Embracing today's journey we will flow and assimilate all that you have experienced, affirming and integrating your yoga tour. YAGD member Lynn Medow (ERYT/500) is a compassionate teacher whose pioneering approach to individualized teaching and therapeutics has earned her the reputation of being the "go-to" person for questions of healing and wholeness.
Session Five: 4:30-5:00pm: Savasana ~ Peggy Bradley
Savasana (Final Relaxation) is the important ending of every yoga practice. It relaxes the whole psycho-physiological system, bringing awareness to the body and the mind. Every yoga tradition emphasizes its importance. YAGD member Peggy Bradley (who has been practicing yoga since 1991 and teaching for eleven years) will lead you through this deceptively simple, deceptively challenging and oh-so-refreshing final relaxation.
Check-in: 8.45-9.15 am. Bring a yoga mat and a blanket. Space is Limited. Early registration is advised.
The Yoga Association of Greater Detroit (YAGD) is one of the oldest and largest yoga teachers' associations in North America. YAGD has presented 'Yogaday' in the Spring for 27 years. 'Fall Yogaday' is YAGD's newest addition to the practice and teaching of yoga in South-East Michigan.
