WHAT: YMCA of San Francisco’s inaugural “Y for Youth Luncheon”
To ensure that all Bay Area youth have the opportunity to build healthy and productive lives, the YMCA of San Francisco invites corporate, philanthropic and civic leaders to the inaugural Y For Youth Luncheon. Nearly 400 individuals will convene that day to support the Y’s youth development programming. Guests will enjoy a lively program emceed by San Francisco Giants announcer and host of 98.1 KISS FM’s “Morning’s with Renel” Renel Brooks-Moon. In addition, keynote speaker, Bill Neukom, Chairman Emeritus of the San Francisco Giants, will share his personal experience of the Y’s impact on youth.
The YMCA is the nation’s leading nonprofit committed to strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. For nearly 160 years, the YMCA of San Francisco has provided solutions to the unique challenges confronting Bay Area communities. Through 14 branch locations and over 120 program sites, the Y’s programs have a lasting positive impact on the lives of tens of thousands of youth every year. From swim classes and recreation programs, to after school enrichment and environmental education, to mentoring and job readiness, the YMCA of San Francisco provides age-appropriate resources that every young person needs.
"We believe that every young person has the ability to achieve and become a successful contributing adult, but we know that ability must be nurtured through quality youth development activities that are accessible, affordable and have lasting impact," said Chuck Collins, President and CEO of the YMCA of San Francisco. "We thank Bill Neukom and the supporters of the YMCA of San Francisco for their partnership in improving the lives of young people. Thanks to you, we are able to make meaningful change in our neighborhoods not just a vision, but a reality."
Proceeds from the event will support the YMCA of San Francisco's ongoing youth programming in San Mateo, San Francisco and Marin Counties which include programs specifically focused on truancy prevention. Approximately 3000 youth every year are identified as habitual or chronic truants in the City of San Francisco and the Y is committed to reducing these numbers through comprehensive truancy prevention programs. From Youth Chance High School to our Truancy Assessment and Resource Center (TARC), youth find the resources and support needed to get back on track and back in school.
