Yerba Buena Center for the Arts presents Bang on a Can All-Stars Concert February 9, 2008

Composers Michael Gordon, David Lang and Julia Wolfe created Bang on a Can in 1987 to unite musical communities. Bang on a Can All-Stars is part rock band and part amplified chamber group with the core musicians playing clarinets (Evan Ziporyn), cello (Wendy Sutter), piano and keyboard (Lisa Moore), electric guitar (Mark Stewart), bass (Robert Black) and drums (David Cossin). The line-up is constructed specifically to blur the lines between classical and pop ensembles and to give voice to a huge range of music and styles. The program for the night features Czech virtuoso singer/violinist Iva Bittová, known for her haunting avant-garde Czech folk music and improvisational style, and jazz great Don Byron who redefines the music he plays and is a favorite of critics and jazz fans. Impossible to repeat or even approximate, this is a truly “don’t miss” event.
