September 19–30, 2012
The Roy and Niuta Titus Theaters
‘Yeonghwa: Korean Film Today’ opens from September 19 to 30 at MoMA this year. The third edition of ‘Yeonghwa’ includes several distinctive contemporary narratives - from superior genre films to unclassifiable features by some of Korea's renegade filmmakers - along with two features, drawn from MoMA's collection, by Korean film pioneer Shin Sang-ok. Among the thirteen films, many of which US premiers, is In Another Country(2012),Hong Sang-soo, a favorite of film critics and international film festival programmers, makes one of his most charming, gentle and graceful comedies. Premiered at Cannes 2012, it is recently acquired by Kino International, and will be released theatrically in NY. Before then it'll be premiered at MoMA on September 20, and Hong Sang-soo will introduce the film, and will be ready for Q & A with audiences. Other highlights include very tense emotional drama, Jesus Hospital(2011), which director Lee Sang-cheol will be attended the screening, and Helpless(2012) which 'From Beyond Hollywood’ magazine said 'Helpless is definitely a superior Korean mystery suspensor’.
