YBCA presents ARIA by Joan Jeanrenaud and Alessandro Moruzzi July 19, 2008

Cellist Joan Jeanrenaud takes a bold new direction, teaming with Italian designer/fabricator Alessandro Moruzzi, to create an imaginative new musical installation titled ARIA which has its world premiere at YBCA (Free with gallery admission). Inspired by the many permutations of air—“aria” in Italian— the artists explore the politics and poetics of this powerful, invisible element. Visitors can also experience ARIA as an interactive experience in the YBCA Galleries (Sun, Jul 20–Sat, Jul 26), courtesy of an airborne cello that viewers can “play” by blowing into devices that pick and bow the suspended instrument.
