French composer Yann Tiersen is best known for his score to the Jean-Pierre Jeunet movie 'Amelie.' Tiersen mixes a variety of instruments into his works, often with a touch of either European classical music or French folk music, using primarily the piano, accordion or violin together with instruments like the melodica, xylophone, toy piano, ondes martenot, harpsichord and typewriter. Collaborators have included Stuart Staples (Tindersticks), Elizabeth Fraser (Cocteau Twins), Neil Hannon (The Divine Comedy) and Lisa Germano.
