In this workshop with Brittanie DeChino, learn more about the ethical background of yoga, as defined by the sage Patanjali in his Yoga Sutras. Even though it was written thousands of years ago, these principles are strongly applicable for us in modern society.
Brittanie will break down the first 3 limbs of yoga - Yamas, Niyamas, and Asana Practice - and provide simple, modern-day ways to make these principles part of your daily life. The best part is that Patanjali recognized that we aren't perfect, he just wants us to do our best...and he also tells us what rewards we will get if we follow this path!
Yamas are guidelines for how we interact with the world around us:
Ahimsa: non-violence
Satya: truthfulness
Asteya: non-stealing
Brahmacharya: moderation
Aparigraha: non-greed
Niyamas are guidelines for how we deal with ourselves:
Saucha: purity/cleanliness
Santosha: contentment
Tapa: austerity/accept pain and not causing pain
Svadhyaya: self-study
Ishvara-Pranidhana: self-surrender
We'll conclude with a an extended savasana and mediation to help integrate and reflect on the teachings. This program is open to all levels, but some yoga experience is recommended.
