Practical advice on getting published from two successful first-time authors: Bridget Kinsella and Kemble Scott.
Bridget Kinsella is the author of the non-fiction book Visiting Life: Women Doing Time on the Outside, and Kemble Scott is the author of the novel SoMa. Both books became bestsellers last year. The authors will share their personal stories of how their books were published. They will also reveal the steps aspiring writers should take to plot their own paths to publication, plus provide a take-home resource guide. As part of the workshop, attendees will have the opportunity to discuss their own writing projects and get instant feedback.
Bridget Kinsella is a former editor at Publishers Weekly. Her work has appeared in publications such as the Chicago Tribune and Writers Digest, and on NPR and Salon.com. She lives in Northern California.
Kemble Scott is the pen name of a longtime print and broadcast journalist. Using this pseudonym, Scott is a writer and editor at San Francisco's subculture e-zine SoMa Literary Review, and editor of the SF Bay Area Literary Arts Newsletter. In the non-fiction world of television news, he has been honored with three Emmy awards and is an alumnus of the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
