What motivates Jews to perform mitzvot? To stand up for the rights of others? To participate in tikkun olam (repair of the world)?
Three Bay Area Jewish writers discuss their views about social justice and how they address those issues in their writing. They will focus on their own experiences and backgrounds, as well as the collective Jewish experience, in analyzing their influences. Among the themes these writers have engaged with are the reconciliation between second generation Holocaust survivors and children of Nazis, the history of the Conversos, or hidden Jews, and the impacts of globalization and environmental destruction.
