Writers in the Schools (WITS) is celebrating its 25th year with a celebration which will take place at the Junior League on November 5, 2009 at 7:00 PM. We are very excited to announce that our keynote speaker will be Li Cunxin, former principal dancer at the Houston Ballet. Li's story is one of humble origins as a young student in China and the astounding perseverance and talent that led him halfway across the world to Houston and beyond. He chronicled his life story in his best-selling memoir titled, Mao's Last Dancer. His autobiography has become the basis for an upcoming biopic film also titled Mao's Last Dancer. The film features an all-star cast and an Oscar-nominated director and screenwriter. This major motion picture was unveiled at the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival and announcement of a date for the U.S. release is expected soon.
