Every summer, Emerson School of Palo Alto, grades 2-8, open their doors and offer innovative programs in a camp-like setting to outside students who want to share in the summer learning adventures.
Expository Writing- focuses on the preparation of prose forms used in school assignments, the processes of selecting a topic, outlining the content, and establishing a style, and on writing mechanics (word choice, spelling, sentence structure, etc.).
Emerson: 7/9-7/13
Creative Writing- concentrates on a variety of literary forms (e.g., stories, poems, plays, autobiography, travelogues) with emphases on point of view, character, setting, action or plot, and writing mechanics, as well as authentic self-expression.
Emerson: 7/16-7/20
Presentation Techniques- develops students' public speaking and analytical skills for a variety of purposes (e.g., class presentations, debates) using age-appropriate supporting tools, with an emphasis on making assertions with factual and reasoned support and finding the pros and cons of an argument.
Emerson: 7/23-7/27
Media Production- integrates writing skills into a significant individual or team project making use of one or more communication media, (e.g., video, film, website, software, photography, visual arts, performing arts) that will become a part of a student's creative portfolio.
Emerson: 7/30-8/3
All courses are directed by the distinguished faculty of Emerson School. Breaks are taken for snacks, lunch, physical exercise, and social interaction. Parents are welcome at afternoon presentations.
Fees:
1 week: $500
2 weeks: $950
Additional Weeks: $400
Hours: 10AM-4PM (extended care available at no additional charge from 8AM-6PM)
