Golden Diskó Ship
When Berlin based musician Theresa Stroetges announced that she wanted to do a brief UK tour there was no shortage of takers - and some venues even booked her twice! In the guise of Golden Disko Ship, Theresa “crafts dinkily drawn sweetly sensitive shy eyed cascading collages of irresistibly beguiling strange pop, combining a disarming hybrid of lucid folk motifs bleached, torn and interspersed with ether emerging electronic transmissions and hiccupping time signatures that impart a feeling on more than one occasion of being afloat some chemically enhanced dream like boat trip”…phew!
She combines a mass of instruments and found objects (guitars, viola, glockenspiel, sticky tape, compact disc cases, toys…) together with perfectly crafted laptop electronica to form a world of beautiful, original and individual music - “…dreamy, experimental folk electronica that sounds like walking on the beach with the sun in your eyes." Which is exactly how those people who attended last month’s Goldmund Festival remember her.
Her live show brings together the fragile beauty of her recordings, combined with a complete understanding of avant-garde pop as you would expect from her list of influences: Coco Rosie, Múm, Cat Power, Four Tet, Scout Niblett… It also gives Theresa the chance to reunite her music and lovingly produced video pieces to stunning effect.
There are two EP releases available to purchase with a third on it’s way. We think ‘Bumblebee Behind a Tree’ (Forest of Sound – 2007) is outstanding and those lucky enough to have heard/owned ‘There’s a Choas’ (2006) will surely want to add the latest release to their collection.
Theresa has toured extensively throughout Germany and Iceland where she has many fans. Her stage persona was names after a golden ship found rotting around Reykjavik harbour.
