The second annual Westerns of the World International Film Festival: “World Wide Wayne,” a project of the American West Center and the Salt Lake City Film Center, will screen a series of seven films from China, Japan, the former Soviet Union, and the United States examining the relationships among American film icon John Wayne, the greater cultural meaning of the American cowboy’s western ethos, and the impact that ethos has had on U.S. international cultural relations. Extensive audience discussions led by a selection of humanities scholars will follow each screening.
