Krishna Bhatt comes from a prominent family of musicians in Jaipur. His father, the late Pandit Shashi Mohan Bhatt was a sitarist of great repute and professor at the University of Rajasthan. He trained many acclaimed musicians in the family including Krishna, Manju Mehta and Vishwa Mohan Bhatt. Three centuries ago, Krishna's forefathers emigrated from south India to seek employment in the department of learned scholars of the Maharaja of Jaipur. They were Sanskrit scholars, poets and musicians.
Krishna Bhatt is a disciple of "Bharat Ratna" sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar since 1984 and he divides his time between Jaipur and New York City where he teaches at his Gurulul Center for Music, Research and Performing Arts of India. He has been touring since 1976 and has performed on concert stages all over Europe, North America and India.
Krishna Bhatt has received numerous awards and honors including "Gunijan" award by the President of India and was conferred the "Kalashiromani" samman by the Maharaja of Jodhpur. He has twice been the recipient of the prestigious AIIS fellowship awards in the category of performing arts. His innovative style of music combines a rich blend of traditional vocal and instrumental music compositions. His music is noted for its virtuosity, originality and depth of feeling that is conveyed to the listener.
Nitin Mitta is a prominent young tabla player whose rare combination of technical virtuosity, spontaneity, clarity of tone and sensitivity to melodic nuance has led him to perform with such celebrated musicians as Pandits Jasraj, Rajan and Sajan Mishra, Vishwa Mohan Bhatt and Ustads Nishat Khan and Shahid Parvez.
Nitin has also collaborated with jazz pianist Vijay Iyer and guitarist Prasanna in a unique trio named Tirtha. His work with Prasanna can be heard on the sound track of the Oscar-winning documentary "Smile Pinki".
After moving to the U.S. in 2002, Nitin received a grant from the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts. He maintains a busy performing and teaching schedule, traveling throughout the U.S., Europe, Canada and India. He has performed at several prominent venues including the Music Academy in Chennai, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, the Metropolitan Museum and the Purcell Room in London.
Nitin received his early training in Hyderabad from Pandit G. Satyanarayana. During his studies he won many accolades including first prize in the All India Competition in Kolkata. He has also trained under the guidance of Pandit Arvind Mulgaonkar of Mumbai.
