One of Cleveland, Ohio's most popular original bands in the 90s was World In A Room. Led by vocalist Jason Smith, who drew comparisons to Bono and David Gahan, WIAR was packing rooms and touring regionally as part of the groundswell of alternative and college music that was exploding at the time. Jason's brother Kevin Bang (guitar), Tim Brennan (bass) and Don Lisy (drums) rounded out the band. Driving rhythms, sinewy guitar lines and captivating vocals drew hundreds of fans to each show and generated ground swell that almost took the band to stardom. But alas the old story held true. Just at the cusp of grabbing a record deal and big time support, the band imploded in 1997. Some old fans have said World In A Room should have been a better version of Snow Patrol or the Killers if allowed to grow. We may never know. 12 years later, in 2009, it looks like the band is ready to come together again. If not to finish what they started, at least to play again for themselves and invite some old fans along. Who knows - maybe some new songs, some new fans, and new energy will come along with them.
