In The Closing of the American Border, Edward Alden reports on the internal battles in the Bush administration over trying to build new border defenses to keep out terrorists without punishing innocent people and discouraging the best and the brightest from coming here, which is happening now, and chronicles the tragic stories of many who have been hurt by what resulted.
