Geshe Dorjee Damdul, the English translator to His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama, is to give a series of talks on emotions at Choe Khor Sum Ling, Bangalore for two days, on February 22-23.
The talks will present a path for working with emotions that is firmly grounded in the Buddhist treatises.
What are emotions? How do they arise? Can we discipline them? How to cultivate positive emotions like compassion, loving kindness? How to counter destructive emotions like anger, hatred, attachment, willful indifference?
Geshe La, well-versed in the Buddhist philosophy and modern science, will answer these questions in relation to the wisdom seeing the ultimate reality, interdependent nature of ourselves and world around us.
Among the topics to be discussed during these two days are universal compassion, wisdom of emotions and inner health, modern ethics, scientific discoveries, interdependence and spiritual path.
Geshe Dorjee Damdul is a distinguished Buddhist scholar, whose interest lies in the relation between Buddhism and science, especially in physics. Geshe La participated in several conferences on "Buddhism & Science", Life and Mind Institute meetings, dialogues between His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama and western scientists, incl. the famous dialogue on Emotional Awareness between Paul Ekman and the Dalai Lama which resulted in the book with the same title. Geshe La teaches Buddhist philosophy at the Institute of the Buddhist dialectics in Sarah, near Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh.
