Wordstock, Portland's annual book and literary festival, kicks off this week with the Wordstock Superstar Poetry Slam, which is sponsored by Portland Monthly. A slam is a competition, where judges picked at random from the audience will score these six poets' performances as they compete for a $1,500 first prize. Wordstock has assembled some of the premier performers in the US for this event, including winners of numerous US and international slam championships.
