Word for Word: Brewsie and Willie & Alice’s Cookbook June 18, 2007

Brewsie and Willie & Alice’s Cookbook is a staged reading incorporating text from Gertrude Stein’s last book, Brewsie and Willie (1946) and Alice B. Toklas’s first book, The Alice B. Toklas Cookbook (1954). The work blends the musings of a group of GIs at the end of World War II with Alice’s recipes and stories of their daily life together in occupied France during the war.
