Enjoy an evening of live standards and original acoustic jazz music performed by the Woody Beckner Quartet on Friday, November 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Williamsburg Library Theatre, 515 Scotland Street. The quartet includes guitarist Woody Beckner, saxophonist Jeff Smith, bassist Jimmy Masters and Billy Williams on drums. Tickets are $15 for adults, $13 for students and Friends of WRL and $7 for those under 16, and can be reserved by calling (757) 259-4070. This is another in the Williamsburg Regional Librarys Dewey Decibel Concert Series.
Like many, Beckner was inspired by rock and blues players to take up the guitar in college. After being introduced to Wes Montgomery, he began working on his music in earnest and moved to Boston to study at the Berklee College of Music. Returning to Virginia he pursued a performing career with local greats Steve Wilson and Billy Drummond, both of whom have become national jazz talents. Over the years he has honed his craft with a group of talented regional jazz players and dedicated himself to teaching jazz guitar at the College of William and Mary and jazz improvisation at Christopher Newport University.
