MONTREAL – Local bands will celebrate International Women’s Day with a full-tilt night of music at Café Campus Show Bar on behalf of Women Aware (A group of survivors of domestic violence who provide assistance to survivors, family and friends of other victims).
“Our benefit theme is WOMEN OF ROCK,” says organizer Kayla St. Cartier.
“We do this every year with groups that are fronted by women – it's a great chance to showcase the... amazing talent in this city and has also become a very empowering theme for the festival.
“Apart from that common ground, each band has a different musical style to offer the crowd. So you can expect performances by signer/songwriters, softer rock, harder rock, metal – ALL these are fantastic acts worth hearing. But we are not here to blast people's ears off all night – we are here to raise awareness (and funds) for a cause that desperately needs everyone's attention.
The recipient of the show’s profits, Women Aware, is thrilled.
“It’s a real boost for us,” says June, a Women Aware employee. “I am so impressed with Triggered Response's continued mission of giving back to the Montreal community! Also, an event like this
reminds people of our work. Women in trouble need to know where to seek immediate assistance and protection.”
“It’s a good step for us,” says Kayla, who is also lead singer for the night’s headline act Triggered Response. “On stage, we naturally want to connect with audiences. But this time, in a way, we connect audiences to people who need their help. It adds an extremely fulfilling dimension.”
Café Campus is a popular show venue among both local an touring performers. It is managed as a co-operative ownership, which allows the drinks to be cheap and the staff to be cheerful.
“It is our absolute favourite place to play in the city, hands down.” says St.Cartier. “The staff and management are always amazing and they have the best sound engineers around who genuinely care about the quality of their work. I can't WAIT to hit that stage again!”
