William Cordova : pachacuti pachacuti pachacuti
Opening Reception: Saturday, September 27, 7-10pm
Exhibition Dates: September 27 - November 1st
We are very proud to present to you this Saturday, a solo show by Peruvian born artist William Cordova, titled "pachacuti, pachacuti, pachacuti". The opening is from 7-10pm this Saturday and we will also be available by appointment from Thursday through Saturday afternoon. Please do stop by and see this work, it is a wonderful opportunity for Austin.
The Andean Quechua word, "pachacuti," like many words in languages from across the world, does not have one translation, but many interpretations depending on its various usages and contexts. In two installations, "this one's 4U" and"some of us were gladiators," Cordova investigates the many interpretations and contexts of visual culture. The sculptural installation "this one's 4U" is an exercise in interpreting our reaction to mass produced images and an investigation into our preconceived assumptions of how and why we listen rather than hear. The "some of us were gladiators" project focuses on the geography of marginalized histories as Cordova re-activates the past as a means of understanding our present.
