San Francisco jazz and blues vocalist and songwriter Pamela Rose and her band present a multi-media musical presentation celebrating the female songwriters of Tin Pan Alley and revealing the creators of classic tunes for Louis Armstrong, Fred Astaire, and Frank Sinatra. Combining jazz, storytelling, and photography, this all-star band brings tales of these fascinating songstresses – many of whom were African-American or Jewish – to life. A conversation with SFJAZZ Director of Education, Rebeca Mauleon, on women in jazz follows the program.
Presented in conjunction with the exhibition Black Sabbath: The Secret Musical History of Black-Jewish Relations.
