Motivated by a love of architecture and heritage, Margie Zeidler’s UrbanSpace Property Group has become a local and international leader in the adaptive re-use of existing buildings. Margie often quotes Jane Jacobs’ maxim that ‘new ideas need old buildings’. Until recently, it seemed that there was a disconnect between preservation of historic buildings and the green building movement. However, a recent Green Globes Analysis has proven that the first project of UrbanSpace Property Group, 401 Richmond, uses half as much energy on average as its more modern counterparts. Visit the wonderful UrbanSpace building, 215 Spadina, meet Margie, and make the connection between our architectural roots and a climate-friendly city.
