Buddhist monk Bhante Sathi will give a talk at the Northfield Buddhist Meditation Center on Sunday, June 4, entitled "Who is Buddha?" Bhante, a frequent visitor to the Northfield group, is a monk originally from Sri
Lanka who practices in the Theravadan tradition. He is affiliated with
The Triple Gem of the North, which is based in St. Peter and is active in
teaching Buddhism in Minneapolis, St. Paul, Chanhassen, St. Peter, and
Mankato.
There will be an optional orientation for persons new to the Northfield
Center at 8:30 a.m. Bhante will lead a 30-minute meditation beginning at
9:00 a.m., and will speak at 9:45 a.m. Tea and coffee will be served
afterwards.
This talk, like all events offered at the Center, is given on a dana
basis, dana being the Pali word for generosity. Buddhist teachings have been passed down over the centuries in the spirit of generosity,
and the Northfield Buddhist Meditation Center tries to continue this
practice. We depend on donations for operation of the Center, and we hope
participants will experience this generosity and respond in kind with
financial support the Center as well as our teachers. At all events we
have two donation baskets: one for the Center, and one for the teacher.
