An art history presentation and live sacred drum performance by Barbara Gail. This slide show was the basis of the book "When the Drummers Were Women: A Spiritual History of Rhythm", authored by friend and teacher, Layne Redmond. The forgotten her-story of women as primary percussionists in the Ancient Mediterranean World, comes alive in over 60 images from temples and museums. Named Goddesses, Priestesses, and Unnamed Women are depicted playing the frame drum, the oldest known, most universal drum, dating as far back as 5600 BCE. Barbara will play frame drum and Middle Eastern tambourine.
