An art history presentation and live sacred drum performance with Barbara Gail, co-owner of The Rhythm Inlet. This slide show was the basis of the book "When the Drummers Were Women: A Spiritual History of Rhythm", both authored by friend and teacher, Layne Redmond. The forgotten history of women as the primary percussionists in the Ancient Mediterranean World, comes alive in over 60 images from temples and museums. Named Goddesses, Priestesses, and unnamed women are depicted playing the frame drum, the oldest known, most universal drum, dating back to 5600 BCE. Barbara will play frame drum, djembe and Middle Eastern tambourine. Gabrielle Roth, Dr. Christiane Northrup, Starhawk, and Brooke Medicine Eagle,
have all read and written reviews about this book!
