Wet 'n' Wild Family Tour to Bonita Falls/Litter Patrol, San Gabriel Mountains, San Bernardino County, Difficulty=easy to moderate January 30, 2011

Meet at Melody's Place Restaurant and carpool to trailhead. Follow a professional naturalist and cross over a flowing creek lined with alders. Step into a dry wash and navigate rocks of various sizes. Find water again and hike up a short distance through a shady woodland to an incredibly high series of waterfalls, some of the tallest in the county! Opportunity to get wet underneath and swim in pools. Explore nearby caves. Learn about the indigenous plants and wildlife. Bring trash bags and pick up litter to improve area. Appropriate for young children. Bring snacks/picnic lunch in backpack to enjoy at waterfall. Adventure Pass is required to park at trailhead. Enjoy a hearty meal at Melody's Place after the tour.
Who: Kids and up (Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.)
Where: Meet at Melody's Place, 551 Lytle Creek Rd, Lytle Creek, CA 92358 and carpool to trailhead. National Forest Adventure Pass required to park at trailhead (available at Lytle Creek Ranger Station, REI, Big 5, Turner's). $5 for day pass and $30 for annual pass.
Difficulty: Easy to moderate (1-2 miles round-trip, creek access, rocky terrain, poison oak)

Special Instructions/Supplies: Please arrive at least 15 minutes before start time. Bring a minimum of 1 quart (32 oz) of water per person. Bring snacks and/or full meal. Wear weather protection (jacket, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, etc.), durable hiking socks and close-toed hiking shoes (extra pair for wet tours), long pants, and backpack for snacks. Bring swimsuit and towel for wet tours. Bring first aid kit (Band-Aids, antiseptic, allergy medicine, tweezers, etc.) and cell phone. Bring flashlight/headlamp and layered clothing for evening tours. Walking sticks are recommended for tours with stream crossings or uneven terrain.
