The Weston-super-Mare Armed Forces Day event, takes place at a variety of locations across the town, including the Town Square, Royal Hotel, Italian Gardens and the Beach Lawns, over the weekend of June 29th and 30th 2013. The event will begin on the Saturday with a flag-raising ceremony in the Italian Gardens. Throughout the day there will be a range of displays including a Red ‘Barrows’ Display by the 290 Squadron Air Training Corps and various displays by the Sea, Army and Marine Cadets. There will also be an inter-cadet tug-of-war competition. On the Sunday the celebrations start with a civic reception hosted by the Town Mayor at the Winter Gardens. This will be followed by a parade and a drumhead service and concert with the RAFA Band and combined bands of the Cadet Forces. Riders with vintage motorbikes are being encouraged to the Weston Bike Night on the seafront on June 27th. The Bike Nights, which run throughout the summer, raises money for the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal and last year raised £10,000 for the cause. We would like to hear from vendors, re-enactors, military vehicle owners etc. who would like to take part. For contacts and the programme of events visit: www.armedforcesdayweston.org.uk
