The West Broad Street Johnny Mercer Task Force and the Johnny Mercer Centennial Committee present a day of celebration recognizing the African American influences on the music of Johnny Mercer.
"A Morning on West Broad: A Visit in the Neighborhood” (now Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard) will include neighborhood visits beginning 10:15 a.m. at St. Phillips AME Church, with remarks from Dr. Clifford Hardwick, III; and 10:45 a.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Temple with remarks from Joe Bruin.
“An Evening on West Broad: Jazz in 1930‘s style!” takes place 5:00 p.m.– 8:00 p.m. Join us for an unforgettable evening of jazz and Johnny Mercer music, featuring Teddy Adams and Friends. Vintage autos will line the street recreating an era when West Broad Street. was "King"! Ladies and Gents, we encourage you to dress in “Cotton Club” style. Blowin’ Smoke, 514 MLK Jr. Blvd, Savannah.
