Event Sponsor - Nix Medical Center
Since 1930, the Nix Health Care System has established a tradition of excellence in the health care industry. We have continued to address the needs of our community by providing cutting-edge technology and new medical services and treatments. As a full-service health care provider, the Nix Health Care System offers a broad scope of hospital services, physical rehabilitation services, and behavioral health services as well as home health care.
Accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations, the Nix Medical Center downtown houses an acute care hospital, primary care physicians and a full-range of specialty physicians and services. The Nix Health Care System has been recognized for many outstanding services, which include the Nix Weight Loss Surgery Center as a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence.
The Nix Weight Loss Surgery Center, under the medical direction of Keith Wright, M.D. and Gerardo Carcamo, M.D., takes a team approach to weight loss surgery. At the center, the Lap Band procedure is available, which is an alternative to the more invasive gastric bypass surgery. In addition to the actual surgery, the surgical weight loss program includes patient education and counseling, follow-up care, and ongoing support group meetings. Being designated as a Center of Excellence means that the Nix Weight Loss Surgery Center has attained the highest levels of optimal performance. As a Center of Excellence, the Nix Weight Loss Surgery Center delivers quality care to every patient, every time. Additionally, this achievement now allows the hospital to provide this much needed program to Medicare recipients who suffer from severe obesity and the related complications and conditions.
