If full-on mountains are not your thing then why not join us in the rolling Yorkshire Dales? Over the course of this weekend, from our base in Ingleton, we will be exploring the surrounding area and offering a choice of day walks in this beautiful area.
Welcome Pack: At each of our weekends you will receive a welcome pack comprising a bottle of our own real ale brewed just for us on the Chatsworth Estate in the Peak District, ear plugs and some sweets to help you through the walk, along with essential event information.
Here's hwo the weekend looks:
Friday night Arrival from 4pm: Please feel free to arrive at any point from 4pm on Friday. If you are travelling from afar and likely to arrive after 10pm, please let us know as early as possible on the day as we may have no phone signal at our chosen accommodation.
Welcome Buffet 8pm: An informal welcome buffet will be served at 8pm, where you will get to meet and chat with others in the group. We'll provide pasta and potato salads along with bread and soft drinks and we ask that everyone brings two items of food to add to the feast!
Briefing 9pm: We promise to keep this short but we will run through our proposed format for the weekend.
Treasure Hunt 9:30pm: What better way to break the ice with the rest of the group than a night-time team treasure hunt! Each team's goal is to find the treasure (wine and chocolates!) hidden in the surrounding area. It's designed to be good old fashioned fun - but it's not compulsory!
Saturday After breakfast we head off on our respective activities before returning to the accommodation for a well-deserved three course meal. Then it's time to relax, reflect on the day's activities, or just chill with a book! You are welcome to bring you own alcohol to enjoy during the evening.
Sunday
Some gentler activities will be on offer to round off our weekend. You are free to head off when you wish but we will be aiming to have a leaving meal (not included) in a local pub about 2pm.
Our Food: There's nothing like a good meal when you've been out walking or on some other activity. At LargeOutdoors we want to provide the best quality possible while being environmentally responsible. We therefore source all our food through our Yorkshire office in the market town of Malton, using in-season vegetables from the surrounding dales. Our meat comes from the local butcher who prepares it for us from local free range animals. Main meals are personally prepared by Sophie Legard of Malton Relish (www.maltonrelish.co.uk) to give you a real 'home-cooked' experience. All this, and the pleasure of knowing you are eating sustainably. Vegetarian options can be provided - ask at the time of booking.
And there's more
If you feel more adventurous then we will be offering the chance to complete the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge (£20.12 extra) or have a go at caving (£55 extra).
The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge The aim is to complete a 25 mile circuit of the three peaks (Pen-y-ghent, Whernisde and Ingleborough) within 12 hours, starting and finishing at the same point. With nearly 1,600m (5,249ft) of ascent and descent, this is rightly called a challenge, but it's definitely do-able!
These peaks form part of Pennines and stand at the head of the Ribble valley in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, so you can also be sure (weather permitting!) of some stunning scenery.
Although finishing within 12 hours is the goal, we will be taking it at our own pace. Our priority is that everyone completes it safely. We will have a number of leaders involved, so if you are slower than others in the group you will not be holding them up - or be in any danger of being left behind!
The Yorkshire Three Peaks is an ideal charity challenge, and we will be delighted if you want to use the event to raise funds for a particular charity. You might want to get friends or work colleagues involved too. Or if you come on your own, you'll be joining a friendly group of people who are out to enjoy the event together, support each other and get the most from the experience.
We would advise all participants to train for the event, as it will be a demanding day - but there's no doubt it should be rewarding too. The event is fully guided by qualified mountain guides who will ensure your safety and give you the best chance of completing this challenge.
You'll also be pleased to know that we complete the challenge the opposite way to most groups. We think this makes it a better experience as the route is less crowded and the famous bog comes at the end of the day rather than the beginning (so you won't start with soggy boots...)
