Weaving: Beginners & Beyond
Instructor: Cherri Hankins
(Note: Because of the looms, this class is at an off-site location near the Innsbrook area - intersection of Hungary Road and Springfield Road. See information below. Registration for this class is only available through The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen.)
Over and under, ‘round and ‘round, in no time at all, my warp is wound!!
This new class is an opportunity to build a community of weavers. As students work on their own projects, lives begin to intertwine and mingle. Friendships are formed and the fabric of our lives and our own weavings are enriched. The work you take away from this class will be a ‘marker’ of this time in your life.
Beginners will learn to dress the floor loom and weave off a simple fabric of their choice. Students who have woven before will choose their projects. Weaves to consider are double weave, huck and overshot. Students can expect to complete a beginner piece in a 4-week session. A single session of weaving is a great opportunity for a beginner to ‘test the waters’ and see if weaving is all that they thought it would be. It is also perfect for folks who have woven in the past but need a refresher on how to dress the loom. Intermediate students will want to book several sessions for larger projects. Students wishing to work on long-term projects must book consecutive sessions.
Materials: Cost of materials will vary depending on the project chosen. All materials are available for purchase at the studio, or students may contact instructor for recommendations if you wish to bring your own.
Location: This class is offered off-site, in the teaching studio of Cherri Hankins at 4424 Springfield Road, Suite 103, Glen Allen, inside the Seif & Associates building. Directions will be mailed with a syllabus.
