The Detroit Public Library Presents
“We Are A Musical People”
A Colorful Celebration

In celebration of Black Music Month and the Detroit Festival of the Arts, the E. Azalia Hackley Collection of the Detroit Public Library presents “We Are A Musical People,” an exhibit celebrating our families, community and history through our love for music. This free exhibit takes place at the Main Branch of the Detroit Public Library from May 16th to July 28th, 2007.

In collaboration with Detroit Children’s museum, First Circle and the Fred Hart Williams Genealogical Society, this exciting exhibition features authentic ritual facemasks, sheet music covers from the 1800s and 1900s, historical photos and indigenous instruments that reflect our endless fascination and involvement in all aspects of music.

This exhibit also features an original animation and musical score that will unify these images and artifacts into continuously playing digital diorama of musicians, singers and dancers.

The We Are A Musical People exhibit is free and open to the public during Library hours. Library hours are Tuesday and Wednesday, 12:00-8:00pm and Thursday through Saturday, 10:00am-6:00pm. For more information on this exhibit, please call 313-833-4042 or visit our website at www.detroitpubliclibrary.org.
