Hernandez (26-1, 13 KO) engaged in a pair of memorable fights against Steve Cunningham in his last two outings, controversially winning a technical decision in October 2011, then following that with a 12-round decision win in a grueling fight on February 4 of this year. The 27-year-old Cuban has a style that invites action, and was able to put Cunningham on the canvas in both of their bouts.
Ross (25-2, 16 KO) is a 37-year-old Canadian, originally from Guyana, who won "The Contender" in 2009. His biggest fight to date was also against Cunningham in June 2010, another controversial bout. That one went Cunningham's way via a debated TKO-5 ruling, when they stopped the fight due to a cut on Ross one second into the round. Ross had Cunningham down in round four, and reeling going into that round. Ross also claimed the cut was not from a punch.
This fight adds to what is already a pretty enormous fight date, with Canelo Alvarez vs Josesito Lopez on Showtime that night, and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr vs Sergio Martinez on HBO PPV.
