The East Bay will have a unique opportunity to gain policy insights from Washington DC insider John Hamre during his exclusive appearance at the Bankhead Theater in Livermore, California. Formerly the 26th U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense, Hamre has served in high-level roles in the US government for over 30 years. While at the Pentagon, Hamre pushed to strengthen defenses against terrorist attacks, played a major role in revising export controls to help US industry and was the Department’s point man on the now forgotten Y2K crisis. Since leaving government, he has been an advisor on multiple strategic issues to the government.

His presentation, entitled The American Century, Past Tense or Future Promise? sheds light on America’s role as a global superpower surrounded by a set of regional superpowers.

Dr. Hamre will be the first guest speaker of the 2009-2010 Rae Dorough Speakers Series, which will be held on October 13, 2009, 7:30pm at the Livermore Valley Performing Arts Center’s Bankhead Theater in Downtown Livermore.
