In 1775, when George Washington arrived in Massachusetts, he made his headquarters in the abandoned mansions of wealthy loyalists along Brattle Street in Cambridge. Walk through one of America's finest residential streets and see the most elegant examples of New England architecture from the Colonial through the Victorian periods.

Brattle Street boasts a very rich and eclectic history with residents that included Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, poet James Russell Lowell, Declaration signer Elbridge Gerry, cartoonist Al Capp, presidents of Harvard University, and the inventors of Fig Newtons, baking powder, and Polaroid cameras.
