Boston By Foot. The August Tour of the Month features the topic of architectural preservation with stories of destruction and survival of Boston's notable landmarks.
Boston played a pivotal role in the development of the Historic Preservation movement. On this tour of Boston's architectural history, you will learn the story behind the survival of some of Boston's most beloved historic landmarks such as the dramatic rescue of the Old South Meeting House from demolition.
There were also many casualties such as the loss of the John Hancock House and Charles Bulfinch's beloved Franklin Place.
Today, Boston continues its struggle between architectural preservation and building new as evident in the fate of the Filene's building downtown.
