This course, specifically designed for people in their 50s and over will look at, work with, and provide participants with the necessary information to gain an appreciation for walking, including the health benefits, the tourist opportunities, and any equipment required. The state of our general health is discussed daily in the newspapers and other media, and conventional wisdom has it that we need to remain active to enjoy our lives. Walking is the most natural and simple form of movement and an excellent all round mode of exercise, yet as a nation we are walking less and less. Walking permeates our lives in all sorts of ordinary, yet necessary ways and we may or may not appreciate how this affects us. Inherent in its speed or lack of it, walking allows us the opportunity to slow down, to appreciate the world through which we normally race. Participants will enjoy three walks (field excursions), which reveal fascinating and surprising parts of Sydney. Details of this event may be subject to change.
