The Waco Humane Society is anticipating the delivery of 150 to 250 puppy mill dogs in the next 24-48 hours (starting Friday, May 1). The breeds anticipated are Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and Rat Terriers, so medium to small dogs.
As you might imagine, this is an extraordinarily large influx of dogs and it will put a temporary strain on our resources.
WHS desperately needs individuals to LOAN (or donate) crates and other enclosed containers for the temporary sheltering of these animals. You will get your crates/containers back afterwards if you wish, JUST BE SURE TO SECURELY MARK YOUR ITEM WITH YOUR NAME AND PHONE NUMBER(S) SO THE WHS CAN EASILY CONTACT YOU.
In addition, any donations of money, dog food, cleaning items and pretty much anything else related that you can think of are always welcome.
For those of you willing to make an even bigger commitment, WHS will be looking for plenty of foster homes for these dogs. Please call for more information about how to be a foster parent.
The WHS tentatively plans to be open all weekend, but please call first before stopping by with your donations or loaned crates, or if you have further questions.
Puppy mills are a heartbreaking reality here in McLennan County. It is always a victory to force their closure, but in doing so WHS is obligated by law to try and provide for each of these individual animals. Your help, no matter how small, will enable us to treat as many of these helpless creatures with the dignity and respect they deserve.
We warmly thank you in advance.
