The concert features excerpts from Gilbert and Sullivan's "Patience" and Chinese opera "Legend of the White Snake" (Sung in Chinese with English translations) by Taiwan composer Hsu Chang Wei. "Patience" is a light hearted operetta, a satire of the Aesthetic Movement in the late 19th Century Britain. "Legend of the White Snake" is a musical adaptation of the well-known Chinese myth, in which the white snake turned herself into a human for her love, and eventually sacrifices herself for her family.
The concert will also feature other choral works including the seldom-performed suite of Serenades by Mozart, "The Snow" of Elgar and "The Art of Ground Round" by P.D.Q. Bach.
