HONOLULU – “Voices of Palama Settlement,” a documentary that commemorates the social service agency’s history, challenges, and dedication to those who live in the Palama-Liliha-Kalihi communities, will be shown at an advance VIP screening at the Luke Lecture Hall at Punahou School on Tuesday, April 3, 2012. The program begins with a social hour and pupus at 5:00 p.m., followed by the film screening at 6:15 p.m. Admission to this special event is $50 and proceeds will directly support Palama Settlement’s many innovative programs such as the Pakolea Youth Sports program, the Neighborhood Development and Community Outreach Program, which services the low income, immigrant populations living in the housing projects in the Kalihi-Palama area, and the much loved Leland Blackfield Youth Activity Center, which provides a fun place for local youth to enhance their educational and social skills.
The hour-long documentary chronicles over one hundred years of the settlement’s growth and charitable service to the community through an intimate portrait of those who have passed through this charitable safe haven for Honolulu's less fortunate. Local celebrities, musicians, politicians, Hawaii State Governors, noted athletes, respected Kupuna and young folks such Governor Ariyoshi, Governor Cayetano, Ben Aipa, Cha Thompson, Brother Noland, and many others share their personal stories of Palama Settlement and how it has touched their lives.
“Voices of Palama Settlement,” created by June Crabtree Productions and Lewis Communications, will broadcast to the general public at 6:00 p.m. on April 15 on K5. View the trailer at www.PalamaSettlement.org/Documentary.
