LA Artcore will present a dual-venue exhibition featuring the photography, documentaries and sculptures of the students of Jovenes, Inc. Art Program in association with their mentor-artists Maria Elena Chavez, Corey Jackson, Judy Chavez and Gail Nichols.
This collaborative exhibition will be held in both LA Artcore’s gallery spaces, at LA Artcore Union Center and at the LA Artcore Brewery Annex and will be consist of three sections:
Photography: The Habitat Retrospective - A means for homeless and at-risk youth in Los Angeles to embrace their identity through art. Habitat participants are inner-city youth who work in collaboration with professional photographers to depict their daily life environments.
ShortFilms: Youth and community Leaders -Short film from Jovenes workshops on digital filmmaking in which professional filmmakers instruct youth on how to produce digital films.
Mixed-media Installation: -Jovenes has consistently hired professional artists to create public pieces which allow for the redefinition of the surrounding environment and encourage passersby and community members to discuss each installation. For this exhibition, Jovenes has selected artists Joseph Herring and Amy Ruddick to create a digitally designed installation work titled "Epic Zoom Interiors".
This exhibition was made possible in part by a grant from the Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Dept., and donations provided from Ramone Muñoz, Tom Jacobson and Lydia Takeshita. The sponsor of Jovenes, Inc. include The Rose Hills Foundation, Union Bank of California, United Latino Fund, Soledad Enrichment Action and the Darden Restaurants.
